Eleven Indian crew members were safely evacuated from a vessel off the coast of Oman after it suffered an engine failure, triggering a rescue operation involving Omani authorities and maritime agencies.

The incident occurred amid heightened concerns over maritime safety in the Gulf region, where several shipping-related emergencies and attacks involving Indian seafarers have been reported in recent days.

According to officials, the vessel developed a technical fault that left it stranded in waters off Oman. Rescue teams were alerted after the crew reported the engine failure and sought assistance.

Crew Evacuated Safely

All 11 Indian crew members on board were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported during the operation.

Authorities coordinated efforts to ensure the crew’s safe transfer from the distressed vessel, preventing the situation from escalating into a larger maritime emergency.

Fresh Concern for Indian Seafarers

The latest incident comes at a time when Indian authorities are closely monitoring the safety of seafarers operating in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz region.

Over the past week, multiple vessels carrying Indian crew members have been involved in incidents off the coast of Oman, including attacks that resulted in casualties and emergency evacuations. India has repeatedly stressed the importance of protecting commercial shipping and the welfare of Indian seafarers working in the region.

Ongoing Maritime Challenges in Gulf Waters

The Gulf of Oman and nearby Strait of Hormuz remain among the world’s busiest shipping corridors, handling a significant share of global energy trade.

Recent geopolitical tensions and security incidents have heightened risks for merchant vessels operating in the area, prompting governments and maritime agencies to remain on high alert.

Officials said the rescued crew members are safe and arrangements are being made for further assistance and repatriation if required.
