At least seven people were killed and several others injured in fresh Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Friday, as clashes between Israel and the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah continued despite an existing ceasefire.
The strikes came shortly after the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings for residents in nine villages in southern Lebanon, urging civilians to leave the areas ahead of possible military action.
According to Lebanon’s state-run news agency, one Israeli strike targeted a vehicle, killing two people, while another attack hit a residential house, leaving three dead. A separate airstrike in the village of Shoukin reportedly killed two more people.
Several others were injured in the attacks, though authorities have not yet released a final casualty figure.
The latest violence comes despite a ceasefire that officially came into effect on April 17. However, tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border have remained high, with both sides continuing to exchange strikes and cross-border attacks.
Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for a drone strike targeting Israeli troops gathered inside a house in the coastal village of Bayed. The group said the attack was carried out in response to ongoing Israeli operations in southern Lebanon.
The current round of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah began on March 2, when Hezbollah launched rockets into northern Israel shortly after the United States and Israel initiated military operations against Iran.
Since then, the conflict has increasingly spilled across the region, intensifying fears of a broader Middle East war involving multiple Iran-backed groups.
The fighting has displaced thousands of civilians on both sides of the border, while repeated Israeli airstrikes and Hezbollah attacks have caused significant damage to towns and villages in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
International efforts to fully restore the ceasefire have so far failed, with both Israel and Hezbollah accusing each other of repeated violations.
