An AI-generated image shared by Iran’s embassy in South Africa is drawing sharp reactions, highlighting how meme-style diplomacy is reshaping political messaging.

After Trump, Iran Embassy’s AI Image Of Benjamin Netanyahu With 'Medals' Goes Viral On Social Media
In a move that signals the death of traditional diplomacy, official Iranian accounts are trading in their suits for “slopaganda." The latest image to break the internet—shared by the Iranian Embassy in South Africa—features an AI-generated Benjamin Netanyahu draped in an impossible number of military medals.
The image depicts the Israeli Prime Minister covered from his shoulders to his shins in shimmering medals. The caption doesn’t mince words, stating: “If Netanyahu were to be awarded medals for child killing and genocide."
The comment section under the embassy’s post has become a digital battlefield. Among some of them were these comments:
“The Islamic republic of Iran has murdered more children, teenagers and young adults than any other group. They are truly demonic and deserve to burn and rot in hell for all eternity," wrote one user. Another chimed in, “The medal on his arm is still empty, it should be full too." Many users also asked for the medals to be made bigger, and cover his arms too. “The medals are too small 😔" was another comment on the post.
This isn’t just a one-off post. Iranian embassies across the world have been leaning heavily into meme-style messaging in recent weeks, especially as tensions in the region escalate. From AI-generated images to pop culture references, diplomatic accounts are now posting content that looks far closer to internet humour than traditional state communication.
In some cases, embassies have mocked Donald Trump using AI visuals, film references and even Bollywood quotes. Others have used cartoons, parody scenarios and sarcastic captions to respond to US and Israeli positions, turning political messaging into something designed for virality rather than formality. Some of this content has gone even further — including viral AI videos, “Lego-style" animations and exaggerated parody clips targeting Western leaders.
