LinkedIn is piloting a new “AI labour marketplace" that could allow users to earn as much as ₹14,000 ($150) an hour by helping train chatbots. The Microsoft-owned platform is said to be in the early stages of testing, with more than a dozen roles already listed for so-called AI trainers- individuals tasked with evaluating responses, flagging inaccuracies and stress-testing artificial intelligence systems, according to a report by Business Insider.

What Are These Jobs?

The roles span a wide range of professional domains, including coding, finance, healthcare and linguistics. Pay varies significantly based on expertise, starting at around Rs 3,700 ($40) per hour and going up to Rs 14,000 ($150). The highest-paying role listed is for a senior software engineer trainer. Other positions, such as those for Excel specialists, finance professionals, nurses and experts in Germanic and Nordic languages, can fetch up to ₹9,300 ($100) an hour. There are also “red teaming" roles, where individuals are required to deliberately probe and expose weaknesses in AI systems. These positions typically offer between Rs 3,700 and Rs 4,600 ($40–$50) per hour.

Who Can Apply?

The feature is being gradually rolled out, with eligible users seeing prompts on the platform inviting them to express interest. Applicants are required to verify their profile using a government ID, complete an AI-led interaction detailing their skills and experience and undertake project-specific tasks depending on the role. LinkedIn uses profile data such as education, licences and work experience, along with this AI screening, to match users with relevant assignments.

How Does Job Take Place?

Once selected, AI trainers are assigned tasks such as rating chatbot responses, improving outputs and identifying gaps or errors in AI-generated content. The screening and matching process is powered by Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI services, which engage candidates in a structured interaction to assess their suitability. LinkedIn also uses this data to refine job recommendations and suggest updates to user profiles. The company has begun rolling out alerts for such roles, describing them as part of one of the fastest-growing job categories, particularly in the United States. For users in India, LinkedIn has indicated that the experience is being introduced gradually.
