Ajit Pawar dies in plane crash: What we know about the Learjet 45 aircraft, charter company VSR

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Wednesday perished in a plane crash in Baramati while on his way to address public meetings ahead of the Zilla Parishad elections.

Details about the crash are sparse at the moment, with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirming that all on board, including Pawar and four others perished in the crash.

Here's what we know about the aircraft and its operator:

  • The aircraft which crash-landed in Baramati was a Learjet 45, as per the DGCA. The Learjet 45 is a mid-size business jet produced by Bombardier Aerospace.
  • The aircraft was being operated by VSR Aviation, which provides private jet charter services. VSR Aviation has its registered office in New Delhi, with the office being located at L-1/B, L block, Mahipalpur.
  • The website of VSR Aviation says it provides “affordable forms of air travel, tailored to meet the needs of corporate travelers and other people who need to travel to remote locations not serviced by commercial aviation.” VSR also provides aviation consulting services, spare part sourcing, aircraft management services, and liasoning and coordination with MOCA, MHA, DGCA, DGFT, BCAS, AAI, etc.
  • The Learjet 45 in which Pawar and others were travelling had the registration: VT-SSK.
  • A total of five members were on board; Ajit Pawar, two more personnel (1 PSO and 1 attendant) and two crew (PIC+FO) members.
  • The Learjet 45 was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati when it crash landed.
