To tackle LPG-shortage related issues, Gurugram district administration for the first time set up a 24×7 control room. In the wake of global energy crunch due to supply chain disruption, incidents like black marketing, hoarding and illegal diversion of domestic gas cylinders are on the rise. Officials informed Hindustan Times that citizens can lodge their complaints related to the LPG supply at the designated helpline number — 0124-2868930 of the control room.

On Tuesday, Deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar asserted that the administration has intensified enforcement measures to maintain transparency and ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG to consumers.

“Strict monitoring and enforcement drives are being carried out by the food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department to prevent any inconvenience to the public and to ensure a smooth and fair distribution,” Hindustan Times quoted Ajay Kumar as saying.

This control room has been set up to address the following LPG-linked issues:

What is LPG supply status in Gurugram?

According to the department, around 15,311 cylinders are currently stocked across 58 gas agencies, ensuring uninterrupted distribution to consumers. The government maintains that sufficient domestic LPG stock is available across all agencies in the district and supply remains stable. As per the report, around 15,311 cylinders are currently stocked across 58 gas agencies to ensure uninterrupted distribution to consumers.

According to the department, a total of six field teams have been deployed to conduct inspections daily at gas agencies, storage facilities, and suspected locations. On 30 March evening, the food and civil supplies department conducted a raid in Gairatpur Bas village in Badshahpur during which 64 empty domestic cylinders were seized.

The search operation was carried out after the authorities received a tip-off about illegal storage and misuse of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes. In this case, an FIR under sections 7, 10 and 55 of the Essential Commodities Act was registered, the police said.

As commercial LPG saw upward revision on Wednesday, 1 April, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas clarified that domestic LPG consumers, regular petrol, and diesel users remain largely insulated from soaring international fuel prices.

Clarifying the price hike in a post on X, the Ministry said, “Prices of Commercial LPG cylinders, used by industries and hotels, are deregulated, market determined and revised normally on a monthly basis. Their consumption is less than 10% of the total LPG consumed in the country.”
