A post-mortem examination has ruled out trauma or third-party involvement in the death of French streamer Raphael Graven, who passed away during a live broadcast earlier this week.
Graven, 46, known online as “Jean Pormanove" or simply “JP", died on Monday in the village of Contes near Nice. He was found unresponsive at home shortly after ending a livestream on the platform Kick.
According to Nice prosecutor Damien Martinelli, the initial autopsy results show “no internal or external traumatic injuries" or burns on the body, with only minor bruises and healed lesions observed.
“The probable causes of death appear to be medical and/or toxicological," he said, adding that more tests have been ordered.
Footage from the livestream showed Graven lying under a sheet while another man threw a plastic bottle at him. Despite the disturbing nature of the scene, prosecutors confirmed there were no signs of violence or assault.
“The medical experts consider that Mr Graven’s death was not traumatic in origin and was not related to the intervention of a third party," Martinelli said.
Graven had gained a large following for his controversial and extreme livestreams, often involving stunts where he was verbally abused or humiliated. He had more than a million followers across platforms, with Kick being his main base due to its looser content rules compared to rivals like Twitch.
Authorities said Graven had a history of heart problems and was receiving treatment for a thyroid condition, which could have played a role in his sudden death.
Kick has suspended all co-streamers involved in the broadcast pending the results of the investigation. The company also announced a full review of its French content policies.
