Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, along with advisor Humayun Kabir, begins a key visit to India on Tuesday aimed at stabilising and deepening bilateral ties after a period of strain, sources told News18.

The visit is expected to focus on reviving cooperation across sectors, particularly energy and infrastructure, as both sides look to reset engagement, following a slowdown during Bangladesh’s interim government phase.

High-Level Meetings Scheduled

Rahman is scheduled to hold meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, sources said.

The discussions are expected to cover strategic, economic and security aspects of the bilateral relationship.

Focus On Energy Cooperation

A key agenda item will be strengthening energy ties between the two countries.

India and Bangladesh have had an energy supply agreement in place since 2017, under which Dhaka imports diesel from India. Officials are expected to explore ways to expand this cooperation amid regional energy challenges.

Push To Revive Infrastructure Projects

The visit will also focus on restarting several infrastructure projects, particularly in railways and roadways, that were paused or slowed down earlier.

Sources said multiple bilateral projects had seen delays during the interim government period, and both sides are now looking to accelerate their implementation.

Reset After Strained Phase

The visit is being seen as a step towards normalising ties and restoring momentum in India-Bangladesh relations, with both countries aiming to rebuild trust and cooperation across key sectors.
