US President Donald Trump on Sunday stated that he would like the triumphal arch in Washington, DC, to be the “biggest one of all" as he referred to the city as the “only major city".
“For 200 years, they wanted to build an arch," Donald Trump said while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on February 1.
Noting that nearly 57 cities around the world have triumphal arches, Trump said that Washington DC, did not have one.
Trump Hints At Triumphal Arch
According to a report by Bloomberg, President Trump had earlier hinted at plans for the new and permanent triumphal arch as a part of the administration’s commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, falling on July 4, 2026.
Previously, when asked about when construction would commence, the President asserted that it would begin sometime over the next two months.
It’ll be great. Everyone loves it. They love the ballroom too. But they love the Triumphal Arch," Trump had told Politico.
‘Don’t Want It Taller Than White House’
Earlier, Donald Trump had also said that the arch would not be taller than the White House. “I could have built a much bigger one, but I did not want to do that; I did not want it to be taller than the White House," he stated.
The President also confirmed that a committee would be set up to look into the construction of the arch.
