The blast took place near the gate of Khan Zada Market in Wana Bazaar and specifically targeted the vehicle of prominent tribal leader Malik Tariq Khan.

Intelligence officials believe the bombing bears the hallmarks of militant networks that have increasingly intensified operations across Pakistan’s northwestern regions.
A powerful explosion ripped through the busy Wana Bazaar area of Pakistan’s South Waziristan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, killing at least four people and injuring several others in yet another major attack highlighting the deteriorating security situation in the country’s tribal belt.
According to top intelligence sources, the blast took place near the gate of Khan Zada Market in Wana Bazaar and specifically targeted the vehicle of prominent tribal leader Malik Tariq Khan, the chief of the Ahmedzai Wazir tribe. Malik Tariq Khan was among those killed in the attack. Another influential tribal figure, Malik Sarfraz Khan Yar Gul Khel, also died in the explosion.
Several others sustained serious injuries in the blast and were immediately shifted to the Headquarters Hospital in Wana, where emergency treatment is underway. Rescue teams and security personnel rushed to the site soon after the explosion, cordoning off the area as rescue operations continued late into the evening.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. However, intelligence officials believe the bombing bears the hallmarks of militant networks that have increasingly intensified operations across Pakistan’s northwestern regions.
The attack comes amid a sharp rise in violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where militant groups, including factions linked to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), have stepped up assaults on tribal leaders, police personnel and military targets.
Just days ago, at least 18 Pakistani security personnel were killed in coordinated militant attacks in the Bajaur region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after heavily armed attackers stormed a security installation following a suicide bombing.
In another recent incident, at least nine people, including police personnel, were killed and dozens injured after a powerful explosion struck a crowded market in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Authorities said the blast triggered panic in the busy market area and once again exposed the worsening security situation in Pakistan’s border regions.
