According to the reports by several media outlets, a US fighter jet has been shot and the US forces have also launched search and rescue efforts. According to a report by CNN, one of two crew members has been rescued and is in US custody.
The sources also confirmed the aircraft was an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet.
According to an email from the Pentagon obtained by The Associated Press, the US military said that it received notification of “an aircraft being shot down" in the Middle East. However, the email did not disclose details like location or number of pilots on the aircraft.
The Pentagon and US Central Command didn’t immediately respond to several messages seeking comment.
