'Ceasefire Best Possible Outcome': UK, France Call For Lebanon's Inclusion In US-Iran Truce Deal

After Trump announced a US Iran ceasefire, Israel launched major strikes in Lebanon, killing about 250, France and the UK now urge including Lebanon in the ceasefire deal

Within hours of US President Donald Trump announcing a ceasefire in Iran, Israel launched a fresh wave of attacks on Lebanon. These strikes, as the Israeli army puts it, were “the largest coordinated strike across Lebanon".

Now, several world leaders who earlier welcomed the US-Iran ceasefire have called for Lebanon’s inclusion in the deal.

Calling for a broader agreement that would include Beirut, French President Emmanuel Macron said that decision of US-Iran ceasefire was the best possible one and he expressed the deal should be comprehensive  and cover all areas of confrontation, including in Lebanon

France Calls For Comprehensive Negotiations

In a post on X, Macron wrote, “I spoke today with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, as well as with U.S. President Donald Trump. I told both of them that their decision to accept a ceasefire was the best possible one."

“I expressed my hope that the ceasefire will be fully respected by each of the belligerents, across all areas of confrontation, including in Lebanon. This is a necessary condition for the ceasefire to be credible and lasting. It must open the way to comprehensive negotiations capable of ensuring security for all in the Middle East. Any agreement will have to address the concerns raised by Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as its regional policy and its actions obstructing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz," he added.

“This is how a strong and lasting peace can be built, with the support of all those who are able to contribute to it. France will play its full part, in close coordination with its partners in the Middle East. This is also what I discussed today in my exchanges with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Iraq," the French President said.

UK Calls For Lebanon’s Inclusion in US-Iran Ceasefire

UK, who earlier welcomed US President’s decision to stop a full-blown attack on Iran, on Thursday called for Beirut’s inclusion in the ceasefire agreement. This development comes amid Israel’s latest strikes that targeted more than 100 spots in 10 minutes and killed around 250 people.
