China, Japan "Risk Collision" Amid "Unusually Close" Maneuvers in Pacific, US Rushes Nuclear Carrier

Tensions spiralled in the Pacific as Chinese fighter jets flew unusually close to Japanese military patrol planes last weekend. This came after Tokyo spotted two Chinese aircraft carriers simultaneously sailing in the Pacific for the first time.A Japanese defence ministry spokesperson said on June 12 that Chinese fighter jets had flown "unusually close" to the Japanese patrol plane. On June 9, a Chinese J-15 fighter jet from the Shandong aircraft carrier followed a Japanese P-3C patrol plane “for 40 minutes.” The next day, on June 10, two J-15 jets did the same “for 80 minutes,” the defence ministry in Tokyo said. The P-3C aircraft were conducting surveillance over international waters in the Pacific when the incident took place, according to Tokyo.Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi described the activity of Chinese jets as “abnormal” which he said “poses risk of a collision.” n18oc_world n18oc_crux0:00 INTRODUCTION4:18 CHINA URGES JAPAN TO “STOP DANGEROUS BEHAVIOUR”5:05 US SLAMS CHINA’S “RECKLESS AGGRESSION”
