Circus Tiger Leaps Into Crowd In Russia; ‘Remain Calm Or You’ll Make It Worse,’ Trainer Says

Eyewitness video of the tiger roaming the audience area as spectators backed away in fear has gone viral.

A circus tiger in Russia leaped into a panicked crowd of spectators earlier this month, prompting a criminal investigation. The incident, according to the Moscow Times, took place in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don, with videos of the episode now going viral on social media.

The incident occurred when three tigers and two trainers were inside a performance ring. Eyewitness videos from the scene showed that the barrier separating the audience from the animals suddenly collapsed.

Moments after the barrier gave way, one tiger jumped over it and rushed into the seating area.

One video showed a man immediately getting up with his child and looking for an exit. As the camera panned across the venue, some spectators were seen cautiously leaving their seats, while others hurried towards the exits as the animal moved through the rows.

The footage also showed a trainer attempting to steer the tiger toward an exit along the empty back rows, even as families with young children watched in alarm.

“Dear visitors, please remain calm or you’ll make it worse," an announcer was heard saying over the circus loudspeaker, according to the Moscow Times.

The report said trainers eventually managed to guide the tiger into a secure transportation container. It also noted that no injuries were reported among spectators, according to local officials.

Russia’s top investigative body, the Investigative Committee, said on Monday that it has launched a criminal probe into possible safety violations.

The video sparked shock, concern and alarm online. Popular X user Mario Nawfal reshared it, writing, “Imagine taking your kids to the circus and having to sprint for your life from a 500-pound apex predator!"

“Poor tiger just wanted to escape the chaos. Time to ban all wild animals from Circuses," wrote X user @montecaldo1, reacting to the video.
