A CNN supercut on Monday captured House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) repeatedly saying “I don’t know anything about that” or variations thereof in response to President Donald Trump’s controversial moments. (Watch the video below.)
“NewsNight” host Abby Phillip shared the compilation after a discussion about Trump’s insistence on “60 Minutes” that he did not know who crypto magnate Changpeng Zhao was after pardoning him. Zhao pleaded guilty to money-laundering violations. Perhaps to avoid comment about Trump’s sketchy claim, Johnson claimed (or feigned) ignorance.
Phillip zeroed in on Johnson’s knack for selective unawareness ― or “common refrain” — on Trump matters. “Apparently, news doesn’t get to Capitol Hill,” she said.
The reel of Johnson’s greatest “know nothing” hits covers Immigration and Customs Enforcement activities, a pardoned Jan. 6 rioter getting arrested and more.
But the refrain remains.
Turning to Republican pundit Scott Jennings, Phillip remarked afterward, “It just kind of undermines the idea, you know, that there’s some righteous indignation about the wrongdoings of your political opponents, but any time that your guy’s doing something that is questionable, it’s like,‘Oh, I just haven’t heard about it.’”
