Even as US President Donald Trump has set a Tuesday deadline for Iran to respond to a proposed deal, the White House schedule shows he will be attending a closed-door dinner with the US ambassador to India at the same time.

While it is not clear what the agenda of the meeting is, the question remains whether this is a coincidence or a strategy.

A Tuesday deadline has been set for Iran to accept a proposed deal or face what US President Donald Trump warned would be the “complete demolition" of the country’s key civilian infrastructure.

Tehran responded, with the Iranian army dismissing Trump’s remarks as “arrogant rhetoric and baseless threats," asserting that its operations against US and Israeli forces would continue unaffected.

Five weeks into the US-Israeli conflict with Iran, Trump has demanded that Tehran reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping by midnight GMT Tuesday, failing which Washington could launch a fresh wave of strikes.

Outlining the potential scale of action, Trump said, “We have a plan…where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding and never to be used again."

He added, “I mean complete demolition by 12 o’clock, and it’ll happen over a period of four hours — if we wanted to," while rejecting accusations that such actions could amount to a war crime.

The remarks came as Trump also spoke about a recent US operation to rescue two crew members of a downed F-15 fighter jet inside Iran.

Meanwhile, international mediators continue to push for a proposed 45-day ceasefire, leaving uncertainty in its wake. While Trump earlier described the plan as a “significant proposal," he later indicated it was insufficient.

Iranian officials, quoted in state media, said Tehran has also rejected the ceasefire proposal and is seeking a more definitive end to the conflict.

Responding to Trump’s warnings, Iran’s Khatam Al-Anbiya central command termed the US president “delusional" and said “crushing operations of the warriors of Islam against the American and Zionist enemies" would continue.
