As the ongoing war in West Asia entered its 14th day, the death toll in Iran and Lebanon has surpassed 2,000, with the conflict continuing to disrupt oil supplies, shipping routes, and the security situation across several countries.

More recently, six US service members have been confirmed dead after a US aerial refuelling aircraft crashed in western Iraq, according to the United States Central Command. The aircraft involved in the crash is the KC-135 Stratotanker, one of the most important support aircraft in the United States Air Force fleet.

The crash of the US aircraft in Iraq has brought the US death toll in Operation Epic Fury to at least 13 service members. Seven of them were previously killed in combat during the Iranian attacks in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Over 2,000 Dead In West Asia

Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said the US-Israeli attacks on Iran have killed more than 1,300 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top Iranian officials. Iravani accused the US and Israel of deliberately targeting civilians by attacking “populated residential areas" and “critical civilian infrastructure".

He said 9,669 civilian sites had been destroyed, including nearly 8,000 residential homes, along with commercial centres, medical and pharmaceutical facilities and schools and educational institutions, CNN reported. Iran’s fuel storage cites were also struck, releasing large quantities of hazardous and toxic pollutants into the atmosphere.

The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) has warned that the total is even higher, with at least 1,858 deaths – including civilians and military casualties.

Meanwhile, at least 773 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since the Iran-backed Hezbollah group launched attacks on Israel, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Health. Among the dead are 103 children. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that Hezbollah will pay a “heavy price" and also hinted at ground operations.

At least 15 Israelis have also been killed in the ongoing conflict since Iran launched missiles and drones in the country in retaliation for the February 28 strikes. At least nine Israelis were killed in a direct missile hit on a residential building in the city of Beit Shemesh, and two Israeli soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon on Sunday.

Deaths In Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iraq

At least 32 people have been killed in Iraq, the majority of them being fighters from the Popular Mobilisation Force (PMF), which houses several Iranian-backed factions. Six people each from Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have also been killed in the Iranian attacks.

One person was killed after debris from an intercepted missile sparked a fire on a vessel in Bahrain, and three people were killed in Oman, including an Indian national on a tanker off the Omani coast. In Saudi Arabia, two people were killed after a projectile struck a residential facility in Al-Kharj.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said American troops are going to be hitting Iran “very hard over the next week", shortly after issuing a partial 30-day waiver for purchases of sanctioned Russian oil, hoping to ease rising prices fuelled by the war.
