US President Donald Trump made an unexpected appearance on Tuesday, taking a brief stroll on the rooftop of the White House alongside several officials. The President, flanked by bodyguards and under the watchful eye of rooftop snipers, walked for approximately 20 minutes on the flat section of the roof above the press room. From there, he appeared to survey the site of his proposed new ballroom and even interacted, albeit cryptically, with the press, reported AFP.

When asked by reporters about the reason for his rooftop visit, Trump casually replied that he was just “taking a little walk." However, the moment quickly took a bizarre turn when he began making unusual gestures, at one point mimicking the launch of a nuclear missile with his arm. Asked what he intended to build next, the President joked about installing nuclear missiles on the roof.

The incident comes amid growing tensions between the US and Russia. For several days, both nations have been engaged in increasingly heated rhetoric. Just recently, in response to comments from former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, Trump claimed he had ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines near Russian waters. In turn, Moscow warned the US against making nuclear threats, citing obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Trump’s White House Ballroom Project

President Trump has been pushing forward with plans to renovate the White House, including the construction of a grand ballroom, a project he says is inspired by the lavish style of his private properties. According to AFP, Trump has already paved over the lawn of the iconic Rose Garden and redecorated the Oval Office with gold ornamentation.

The ballroom is expected to be the most significant architectural addition to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in more than a century. Estimated to cost around $200 million, the project will reportedly be funded by Trump himself, with support from private donors. “It’s just another way to spend my money for the country," he said during the walk on the White House rooftop.

The ballroom is expected to have a capacity of hosting 650 guests at once. This will also expand the White House’s ability to plan large events. Currently, functions of such scale take place in tents on the South Lawn.
