President Donald Trump on Sunday shared AI video of congressional Democrats being imprisoned for their video asking service members to defy “illegal orders.”
Sens. Elissa Slotkin (Mich.), Mark Kelly (Ariz.) and other U.S lawmakers with military and intelligence backgrounds received the full-blown wrath of Trump, who had said they were traitors whose behavior should be punished by death. The president even boosted a post about hanging as a means. He later said they should be in jail.
So for a moment the president got to engage in wish fulfillment over a fake clip that shows bars materializing around all six of the video contributors. Some are even given prison stripes. (On Monday, the Pentagon announced it was investigating Kelly for an alleged breach of military law.)
In the Truth Social AI dump reinforcing his rage over the video on Sunday, Trump also leaned into entries featuring Guy Fawkes, an English explosives expert who once unsuccessfully plotted to blow up Parliament and kill the king in the early 1600s. He later was popularized as a mask representing rebellion in the “V for Vendetta” movie.
The issue has come up amid Trump’s legally disputed incursions in blue cities and deadly attacks on suspected drug smugglers at sea.
The president on Sunday also forwarded entries that cast him as larger than life. In one image, he’s a U.S.-flag-caped hero presumably warning military members to “Remember Your Oath.”
In another where the president is backlit by lightning, the post falls back on an old far-right theme: “Time to obliterate the deep state.”
The president, who also seemed preoccupied with football on Sunday, found the time to share another Guy Fawkes-themed post. The caption reads, “Nothing can stop what is coming!”
Expect plenty more of Trump and AI fakery. Any medium that can portray him virtually pooping on protesters as a crown-wearing jet pilot has probably found a permanent devotee in the president.
