Former UK politician Philip Young admitted to committing a string of sexual offences, including multiple counts of rape, against his former wife over a period of 13 years.
Philip Young (49), who reportedly divorced his wife in 2024, pleaded guilty to several charges, which also include administering a substance with the intent to stupefy and voyeurism, according to a report in news outlet BBC.
Young confessed at Winchester Crown Court in southeast England to 11 counts each of rape and administering a substance with intent to stupefy his ex-wife, who also attended the hearing. The offences took place between 2010 and 2023.
A former Conservative councillor, Young admitted to 48 of the 56 charges against him but denied charges of possessing indecent images of children and extreme images. Young served as a Conservative Swindon Borough councillor for Covingham and Nythe between 2007 and 2010, the BBC report mentioned.
He also admitted to recording his ex-wife engaging in private acts without her consent and publishing more than 500 intimate images and videos of her, documenting her on over 200 occasions.
He left his position as a cabinet councillor in 2010 to focus on his family and other business matters, as reported by The Guardian.
Five Others Also Charged With Sexual Offences
Five other men, aged between 31 and 61, have also been charged with various sexual offences against the victim. Norman Macksoni, 47, and Richard Wilkins, 61, pleaded not guilty to one count of rape. Dean Hamilton, 47, faces two counts of sexual assault and one count of assault by penetration, while Connor Sanderson Doyle, 31, pleaded not guilty to sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching. Mohammed Hassan, 37, pleaded not guilty to sexual touching. All five men were granted bail and are scheduled to stand trial on October 5.
Wiltshire Police detective superintendent Geoff Smith stated in December that the case resulted from a “complex and extensive investigation." Following the hearing on Friday, Smith described the hearing as a “significant landmark."
“Today’s hearing is a significant landmark, which has seen Philip Young admit to dozens of serious sexual offences…," smith said.
