Residents across Abu Dhabi received emergency alerts on Saturday afternoon as explosions were reported in parts of the UAE capital, warning of “potential missile threats."

Mobile phones lit up with notifications urging people to take immediate precautions. “Seek immediate shelter in the closest secure building, and steer away from windows, doors and open areas," the alert read, according to a resident who shared it with News18.

Alert received by a resident of UAE amid Iran’s missile strikes.

The UAE Ministry of Defense later confirmed that the country had been subjected to what it described as a “blatant attack by Iranian ballistic missiles." According to officials, UAE air defence systems responded with “high efficiency," successfully intercepting a number of incoming missiles.

However, authorities confirmed that one person of Asian nationality was killed during the incident. The fatality occurred after shrapnel from intercepted missiles fell in a residential area.

In a strongly worded statement, Abu Dhabi condemned the strike as “a dangerous escalation" and said it “reserves its full right to respond."

The developments also triggered precautionary measures elsewhere in the UAE. An evacuation was reported at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa — the world’s tallest building — amid fears linked to the missile threat.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, follow official instructions and avoid spreading unverified information as the situation continues to unfold.
