Mukul Roy suffered from a series of severe neurological and systemic ailments that led to his withdrawal from active politics and eventually his death on 23 February 2026.
Doctors confirmed in early 2023 that Roy had been battling Dementia and Parkinson's disease, which severely affected his cognitive functioning, memory, and physical stability.
In March 2023, he underwent brain surgery for hydrocephalus, a condition where cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the brain, causing increased skull pressure and potential brain damage.
In July 2024, he was hospitalised in critical condition following a fall at his residence that resulted in a head injury and a subsequent surgery to remove a blood clot.
He also dealt with chronic diabetes, respiratory distress, and high blood sugar levels, which contributed to his increasingly "feeble" health in his final years.
