Scammers have targeted a key venue linked to the Trump administration at the World Economic Forum in Davos, duping wealthy attendees by selling fraudulent tickets promising exclusive access to the “USA House".
Organisers of the venue issued a public warning on their website, cautioning visitors against purchasing so-called VIP access packages.
They said reports of fake ticket sales have surged this year, suggesting the scam is unusually widespread.
“Caveat billionaires," the organisers wrote, alerting participants that unauthorised third parties were falsely claiming to sell VIP entry to USA House and other venues run by Stromback Global in Davos.
The post noted that the volume of enquiries indicated the bogus passes may be “the fastest-selling fiction about Davos" in years.
Expressing regret, the organisers added that they sympathised with those who had fallen victim to the scam.
The USA House, housed in a church just outside Davos’s high-security zone, is hosting a packed schedule of discussions throughout the week, featuring chief executives, senior policymakers and US Cabinet members.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to address the World Economic Forum on Wednesday afternoon, with his speech set to be livestreamed for attendees gathered at the USA House, which is hosting several senior figures from his administration.
The incident comes as political and business leaders from around the world converge in the Swiss Alps amid heightened global uncertainty.
Trump’s appearance at the forum, his first in six years, is among the most closely watched, as he prepares to deliver a keynote address and host a high-profile reception.
The reception guest list also includes several prominent Indian business leaders, among them Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Bharti Enterprises founder Sunil Bharti Mittal, Wipro CEO Srini Pallia, Infosys CEO Salil S Parekh, Bajaj Finserv Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Bajaj, Mahindra Group CEO Anish Shah, and Jubilant Bhartia Group founder and co-chairman Hari S Bhartia.
