Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was earlier stripped of his title of Prince, has now moved out of his home in Windsor, UK to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. The former prince left Royal Lodge on Monday night and is now staying at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate while his permanent home undergoes renovations.
Buckingham Palace had earlier said the move would take place in early 2026, but the latest release of Jeffrey Epstein files appears to have sped up his departure. Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles III, had lived at the 30-room Royal Lodge on the Windsor Estate for more than 20 years.
He will now live permanently on the King’s privately owned Sandringham Estate, over 100 miles away from Windsor.
What Buckingham Palace said?
Plans for the move began in October when Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had started the process of removing Mountbatten-Windsor’s “style, titles and honours," including his “prince" title.
At the time, the palace said his lease at Royal Lodge had provided legal protection for him to remain, but formal notice had been served for him to surrender the lease and move to alternative private accommodation.
Buckingham Palace has not commented on his move this week. He was photographed riding his horse in Windsor Great Park on Monday.
Andrew’s link to Epstein
The palace’s October announcement was seen as part of the fallout from Mountbatten-Windsor’s relationship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
His departure from Royal Lodge comes shortly after the US Department of Justice released three million pages of documents related to Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking minor girls.
Mountbatten-Windsor’s name appears in the documents in communications with Epstein, including correspondence in 2010 after Epstein completed a 13-month jail sentence and work release following a 2008 plea bargain in Florida. The documents show the two men remained in contact beyond the time Mountbatten-Windsor had publicly said he had cut ties.
However, Mountbatten-Windsor has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
