The United States is drawing up plans for potential strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure as President Donald Trump sets a “final" deadline for a peace deal, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The deadline, set for 8 pm ET on Tuesday, comes amid escalating tensions, with Washington signalling that failure to reach an agreement could trigger military action.
What Are The Potential Targets?
US military planners are preparing a list of possible targets to present to the president, offering multiple options in case he decides to move ahead with strikes, officials said.

These include key energy facilities that are seen as having a “military nexus," meaning they are linked to Iran’s defence operations.
Officials said energy infrastructure could be considered a legitimate military target if it is used to support military activities — for instance, supplying fuel for missile systems or rocket launchers.
Focus On Energy Infrastructure
The potential target list reportedly centres on Iran’s energy network, including facilities that play a role in both civilian and military operations.
Trump has already warned of sweeping action, stating that all of Iran’s power plants could be destroyed if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by the deadline.

Deadline Raises Stakes
The preparations come as the US ramps up pressure on Iran to agree to terms, with the Strait of Hormuz — a critical global oil route — at the centre of the standoff.
With military options being readied, the coming hours are likely to be crucial in determining whether the situation moves toward negotiation or escalation.
