Disgraced former Republican congressman George Santos isn’t happy about how New York City’s mayoral election turned out ― and he is blaming one person and six cats for the results.
Democrat Zohran Mamdani won the race on Tuesday, beating independent candidate and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and radio host and activist Curtis Sliwa.
Santos, whose seven-year prison sentence for ripping off his campaign donors was commuted by Donald Trump last month, immediately took to social media to lay the blame for the GOP’s failure on Sliwa.
And he did it in the cattiest way possible, in part by attacking Sliwa’s love for cats:
Fuck you @CurtisSliwa I HATE YOU, your dumb wife, that stupid Beret of yours and all your fucking cats!
Fuck you @CurtisSliwa I HATE YOU, your dumb wife, that stupid Beret of yours and all your fucking cats!
— George Santos (@MrSantosNY) November 5, 2025Sliwa has long been a cat lover, and once had 15 rescue cats in his studio apartment. He even brought a cat to his polling site when he voted on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.
As of Wednesday afternoon, neither Sliwa nor his cats have responded directly to Santos’ dogged attack.
HuffPost reached out to Sliwa, but no one immediately responded.
However, others did. One person imagined how Sliwa’s cats are reacting.
Santos was amused, based on his emoji response.
Other responses were more catty.
With your record of dog killing are you really going to go after cats now?
— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) November 5, 2025Hey George- you pathetic excuse of a human- your math sucks(dumb). And your grammar as very limited. Just go away- you’re not wanted or needed anywhere.

Leave the cats out of it! 🤣
Please leave the cats out of this... they did nothing wrong
— Alex Stein #99 (@alexstein99) November 5, 2025Okay! Hate him, his wife, his way of speaking, his fashion choices, and everything else about him! But don't hate the cats! They're pure, and purry! Lol!
— Heather Hammond (@Queen_Heather88) November 5, 2025This isn’t the first time Santos has griped about the New York mayor’s race.

Last month, he warned he’d be fleeing the Big Apple if Mamdani became mayor, and was mocked by responses praising the Democratic candidate for getting rid of criminals before he’s even elected.
