Islamic State (IS) militants set off explosions, roaming freely among passenger planes during an attack at Niger’s main international airport, as shown in the footage distributed by SITE Intelligence Group, Reuters reported.

The attack last week has fuelled concerns about the security and safety of citizens, with the United States government directing non-emergency government employees and their families to leave the country.

Last week, on January 29, a major “surprise and coordinated attack" targeted the Diori Hamani International Airport and the adjacent Air Base 101 in Niamey, Niger, with the IS claiming responsibility for the same.

According to government figures, four soldiers and 20 attackers were dead in the attack.

During the attack at Niamey’s capital airport, gunfire and loud explosions were heard around the airport before calm returned on Thursday morning, according to the news agency’s report.
