US President Donald Trump on Friday once again claimed that he played a decisive role in preventing a war between India and Pakistan, asserting that the crisis was resolved in a “rapid order" and without escalating into a “nuclear confrontation".

Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters during a meeting with senior oil and gas executives at the White House.

He said Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had personally thanked him during a recent US visit, crediting Trump with saving millions of lives.

“The Prime Minister of Pakistan came here and made a very public statement," Trump said. “He said President Trump saved at least ten million lives related to Pakistan and India. That situation was going to be raging."

Reiterating his long-standing demand for the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump said he was not trying to boast about his role in resolving global conflicts, but argued that few leaders in history matched his record.

“I don’t want to be bragging," he said, adding that he could not think of “anybody in history who should get the Nobel Prize more" than him.

Trump claimed he had helped settle eight major conflicts, some of which had dragged on for decades.

Referring specifically to India and Pakistan, he said, “That was just getting ready to start. Eight jets were shot down in the air, and I got it done in rapid order, without nuclear weapons."

He added that while awards were secondary, stopping wars and saving lives mattered more to him. “You should get the Nobel Prize for every war you stopped," Trump said. “I don’t care about that; I care about saving lives. I’ve saved tens of millions of lives."

Trump has repeated similar assertions multiple times since May last year, maintaining that US pressure under his leadership prevented escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

India, however, has consistently rejected claims of any third-party mediation.

New Delhi has maintained that the de-escalation followed direct military-to-military communication after India carried out Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan in retaliation for the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people.

According to Indian officials, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations reached out to his Indian counterpart on May 10, seeking a cessation of hostilities.

A ceasefire was subsequently agreed upon through bilateral channels.
