US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he welcomed Iran’s decision against executing the eight women protesters and issuing order to release them.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran has withheld its previous decision to execute eight women protesters.

“Very good news! I have just been informed that the eight women protestors who were going to be executed tonight in Iran will no longer be killed. Four will be released immediately, and four will be sentenced to one month in prison. I very much appreciate that Iran, and its leaders, respected my request, as President of the United States, and terminated the planned execution," he said.

On Tuesday, the Iranian judiciary denied that eight women were arrested over protests that shook the Islamic Republic this year and are at risk of execution.

Trump’s latest post comes a day after he demanded Iran to release the arrested women. “To the Iranian leaders, who will soon be in negotiations with my representatives: I would greatly appreciate the release of these women. I am sure that they will respect the fact that you did so. Please do them no harm! Would be a great start to our negotiations!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter," he said.

His remarks were in reference to an activist’s claim that eight women were facing death by hanging. That claim did not give names but included photographs of the women.

Responding to the US President’s claims, the judiciary’s official Mizan Online website said, “Trump was misled once again by fake news."

“The women who were claimed to be on the verge of execution, some of them have been released, while others face charges that, if convictions are upheld, would at most result in imprisonment," he added.

Following this, the US-based Iranian dissident Masih Alinejad, however, posted the names of all eight women on her X account and stated that they all have been arrested in connection with the January protests.

“Say their names," Alinejad said, alleging that one of those held was as young as 16.

One of the women identified, Bita Hemmati, was sentenced to death along with three men, including her husband, in a case where they are accused of throwing concrete blocks from a residential building onto security forces in Tehran, several rights groups reported earlier this month, according to a report published in AFP.rl
