Emergency crews responded on Sunday (May 17) after witnesses reported that two aircraft collided during a weekend air show at a military base in western Idaho, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The incident occurred during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base, located about 50 miles south of Boise.
Military base locked down after incident
According to AP, the air base confirmed in a social media statement that the installation had been placed on lockdown following what officials described as an unspecified incident during the event.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and an investigation was launched.
“Responders are on scene,” the base said in its statement, according to the news outlet.
Officials did not immediately release information regarding injuries, fatalities, or the condition of those involved.
Videos circulating online reportedly showed four parachutes deploying in the sky as the aircraft descended toward the ground near the base.
The footage has not been independently verified.
Air show featured Thunderbirds demonstrations
The event included flying demonstrations and parachute performances over the weekend.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the reported collision.
