Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan is set to receive full medical access, with both public and private doctors likely to examine his health as early as Saturday, top sources have revealed to CNN-News18.
According to exclusive details shared by senior officials, amid mounting political pressure, a comprehensive medical board is expected to be constituted to investigate and assess Khan’s complete health condition and medical history. The proposed board will reportedly include government and private practitioners, formed after consultations with the federal government, Khan’s party leadership, his family members, Attorney General’s office, and his legal counsel Salman Safdar, who is also serving as a friend of the court.
The move comes after a medical report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan alleged that Khan has suffered irreversible vision loss due to “institutionalised medical neglect". The seven-page report details a systematic denial of healthcare that began in late 2025. According to the document, Khan possessed perfect 6/6 vision in both eyes until October 2025. Shortly thereafter, he began reporting “persistent blurred and hazy vision" to the then-Jail Superintendent of Adiala Jail but to no avail.
Sources indicate that Khan may soon be shifted from Adiala Jail to a hospital in Islamabad for medical tests and specialised eye treatment. Among the facilities under consideration are Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, and the government-run Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital.
Meanwhile, a defiant opposition staged a sit-in at Parliament House, vowing to remain until their demands are fulfilled. Opposition leaders have called for a complete medical check-up and the “best possible eye treatment" for Khan under the supervision of his personal doctors at Shifa International Hospital.
Party representatives argue that only independent specialists chosen in consultation with Khan’s personal medical team can ensure transparency and credibility in the examination process.
A top government source confirmed that representatives of the government of Pakistan have established contact with opposition leaders in an attempt to reach consensus on at least some of the demands. Negotiations are reportedly ongoing, with possibilities of partial agreement emerging regarding the composition of the medical board and the location of treatment.
The latest developments mark a potentially critical moment in the ongoing political standoff in Pakistan, where Khan’s health has become a flashpoint between the ruling coalition and opposition forces.
