In his first reaction after the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) sweeping victory in the national elections, party chairman Tarique Rahman expressed gratitude to supporters gathered outside his residence in Gulshan.

“I am grateful for the love you have shown me. Please pray for me," Tarique Rahman said briefly while interacting with well-wishers before leaving to offer Jummah prayers, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

According to the report, Tarique Rahman left his Gulshan residence to attend Friday prayers at the Bangladesh Navy Headquarters Mosque. A crowd of supporters had assembled outside his home, hoping to see the BNP chief following the party’s landslide win.

Before departing, Tarique Rahman stopped his car, stepped out himself and exchanged a few words with those gathered, drawing cheers from the crowd. Many supporters waved and attempted to greet him as he acknowledged them before heading to the mosque.

The remarks marked Tarique Rahman’s first public response since the BNP secured a decisive mandate in the polls, setting the stage for what is expected to be a significant political transition in Bangladesh.
