The focus of the Indian cricket fraternity has shifted to the BCCI's squad announcement for the Asia Cup 2025 next week as the Men in Blue aim to defend their title, when the tournament kicks off in UAE from September 9. With the Indian cricket calendar at a standstill after the tour of Bangladesh was postponed to 2026, the buzz is around who's going to be selected and who's to left out.

India have been clubbed alongside Pakistan, Oman and UAE in Group A. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side will begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against UAE on Septemner 9, followed by the high-octane clash against Pakistan four days later. India will finish their group assignments against Oman on September 19. If all goes well, India could face Pakistan two more times in the Super Four stage and in the final.

Shubman Gill to headline India's top order

If multiple reports are to be believed, India's Test captain Shubman Gill is making a comeback to the T20I side after more than a year following his 650 runs for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. There is a possibility Gill might open the innings with Abhishek Sharma with Sanju Samson coming at no.3. Captain Suryakumar will bat at no.4. Although Yashasvi Jaiswal doesn't feature in T20Is much, the southpaw might go as a backup opener.

India's possible Asia Cup 2025 squad

Suryakumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Tilak Varma, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh/Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan/Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav/Ravi Bishnoi, Yashasvi Jaiswal
