An Indian student was killed, and two others were injured in a road accident in Kazakhstan, the Indian Embassy in Kazakhstan said on Tuesday.

In a post on X, the embassy said the accident involved 11 Indian students of Semey Medical University who were returning from an excursion when the mishap occurred.

The deceased student was identified as Mili Mohan, aged 25. The injured students—Ashika Sheejamini Santhosh and Jaseena- are reported to be stable and are undergoing treatment at City Hospital No. 1, Ust-Kamenagorsk, the embassy said.

“As per the latest information, their condition is stable. The Embassy conveys its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased," the mission said, adding that it is in touch with university authorities, hospital officials and the families.

The embassy said it is coordinating closely with local authorities to ensure assistance. Family members of the injured students have arrived in Kazakhstan and are in constant contact with the mission. “We are working closely with the families and extending every possible support during this extremely difficult time," it said, adding that arrangements are being made to repatriate the mortal remains to India on a priority basis.

The students were on an excursion in the Altai Mountains, a vast mountain range spanning Kazakhstan, Russia, China and Mongolia. The region is known for its dramatic landscapes, rich biodiversity and UNESCO-recognised World Heritage sites.
