Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will renew their rivalry when they lock horns in Match 6 of IPL 2026 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday. Both the teams are coming into this match on the back of defeats in their respective opening games.

While Sunrisers Hyderabad went down to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders failed to defend a total of 220/4 against Mumbai Indians (MI), who also won with six wickets to spare.

Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (67) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (51) both scored half-centuries to guide KKR to 220/4.

However, Ryan Rickelton (81) and former captain Rohit Sharma (78) had other plans as they set the platform for Mumbai Indians' victory with a 148-run stand for the first wicket. The five-time champions went on to win the match with five balls to spare.

When KKR and SRH last met at Eden Gardens

The last IPL meeting between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens came around the same time of the year, on 3 April 2025.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by Pat Cummins, won the toss and opted to field first. SRH got off to a dream start, with Pat Cummins and Mohammed Shami removing Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine, respectively.

KKR were 16/2 in the third over after the wicket of Narine, but skipper Ajinkya Rahane (38) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (50) forged an 81-run partnership for the third wicket to take the hosts back in the game.

Between the 11th and 13th over, however, the three-time champions lost both Rahane and Raghuvanshi, leaving them at 106/4 in the 13th over. This, though, did not stop KKR from slowing down as Venkatesh Iyer (60) joined the party.

He slammed seven fours and three sixes in his 29-ball knock of 60, and forged a 91-run stand with Rinku Singh to take KKR to 200/6 from 20 overs.

SRH's horrendous run chase

Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a horrendous start in their reply as they lost their top three batters in Travis Head (4), Abhishek Sharma (2) and Ishan Kishan (2). This left them reeling at 9/3 in the third over, and as a result, they managed to score just 33 runs in the powerplay.

In almost no time, the visitors found themselves in further trouble at 75/6 in the 11th over. Pat Cummins and Heinrich Klaasen combined 37 runs for the seventh wicket, which was the highest partnership for them in the match.

It was evident that SRH needed a much stronger partnership and a couple of key players to bat through the innings. However, that did not happen as SRH ended up collapsing like ninepins. SRH were eventually all out for 120 in 16.4 overs, with Klaasen's 33 being their top score.

Player of the match Vaibhav Arora (3/29) and Varun Chakravarthy (3/22) were the pick of the KKR bowlers, whereas Harshit Rana and Sunil Narine collected a wicket each. Andre Russell collected a couple of wickets as well.
