Amid threats of new strikes on Iran, the authorities have held mass public weddings in the capital for those couple who are ready to sacrifice their lives in the war against the United States and Israel.

The ceremonies conducted late on Monday involved hundreds of couples in several major squares in the capital, including more than 100 in the vast Imam Hossein square in central Tehran, AFP cited Iranian media reports.

The visuals were reportedly broadcast on state TV to boost wartime morale as US President Donald Trump continues to threaten new military strikes on Iran despite a ceasefire that halted the attacks since February 28.

The local media, AFP quoted, stated that the couple who were married on Monday had signed up for the so-called “self-sacrifice" scheme (janfada in Persian) where people pledged to put their lives on the line in the war by, for example, forming human chains outside power stations.

“Certainly, the country is at war, but young people also have the right to marry," one young woman in a white Islamic bridal dress was quoted saying by the Mehr news agency.

According to AFP, the stage was festooned with balloons and with a giant image of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has yet to appear in public since being elevated to the position after the killing of his father and predecessor Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war.

Mehr reported that 110 couples had taken part in the Imam Hossein square ceremony alone.

Interestingly, Tehran’s parliament is gearing up to vote on a bill offering rewards for whoever assassinated President Trump and PM Netanyahu, according to a report by The Telegraph UK.

The proposed bounty legislation is being viewed as a shift from previous religious fatwas and propaganda campaigns to a more formal, parliamentary action amid a fragile ceasefire between Tehran and Washington.
