As the Tuesday deadline set by US President Donald Trump approaches, Iran has called on youths to gather around key power facilities in a symbolic show of support.
Iran’s Ministry of Sports and Youth has asked “Iranian youth", including athletes, artists and students, to assemble at 2 pm on Tuesday near important energy infrastructure. Officials said the move is meant to show public resolve at a time of rising tensions.
What Iran said?
Alireza Rahimi, deputy of youth affairs, said the idea came from young people themselves.
“This action has been formed at the suggestion of the youth themselves. A number of university youth, young artists, and youth organisations proposed that we form a human ring or human chain around the country’s power plants," he said.
He added that the campaign, called “Human Chain of Iran’s Youth for a Bright Future", is meant to reflect unity and determination.
“We hope that with the participation of young people across the country, this human chain will be formed around the power plants, and it will be a sign of the youth’s commitment to protecting the country’s infrastructure and building a bright future," Rahimi said.

Trump deadline and Hormuz reopening warning
The mobilisation comes as Trump has set a Tuesday, 8 pm Eastern Time deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
He has warned of strong military action if Tehran does not comply, saying the US can strike critical infrastructure.
“I mean complete demolition by 12 o’clock… and it will happen over a period of four hours if we wanted to," he said, referring to possible attacks on bridges and power plants.
Trump has also dismissed concerns over targeting such sites, even as experts warn that strikes on civilian infrastructure could raise serious legal and humanitarian issues.
The situation has increased fears of further escalation, with both strong statements and symbolic actions pointing to a deepening stand-off over the crucial waterway.
The Iran war is currently in its sixth week.
