Iran’s Mumbai consulate reshared a viral X post on Israel-Palestine, adding praise for India’s heritage. The move triggered mixed reactions online, from humour to sharp criticism

A repost by the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mumbai has found itself at the centre of the online discussion after resharing a politically sensitive post on X. What amplified the buzz was not just the content of the original message, but the consulate’s added note praising India’s deep-rooted cultural and intellectual traditions, giving the post an unexpected tone.

The original post, which focused on the Israel-Palestine conflict, carried strong opinions on historical and contemporary issues, including colonialism, displacement, and the ongoing tensions in the region.

What made the post gain wider traction, however, was the Iranian consulate’s added note, which described India as a place where philosophical discourse and intellectual pursuits have long flourished. It highlighted the country’s historical contributions, including the development of mathematics and traditions of knowledge-sharing, portraying India as a civilisation rooted in wisdom.

The message concluded with a colloquial Hindi line: “Aur bhai, yahan gyaan bhi milta hai aur swag bhi," translating to “Here, you get both knowledge and style." The informal tone stood out, lending the post a mix of cultural admiration and conversational flair that resonated with many users.

The repost quickly gained visibility, drawing a wide range of reactions from social media users.

One user quipped, “I’m 100% sure this account is managed by an Indian."

“Do you have people from your side who can say the same thing about Pakistan? Which is apparently divided India into parts for islam like Israel did for jews," said another.

Another user commented, “Iran, the people of Hindustan were rich and humanitarian. These beggar white pig people came and looted everything, and today these hypocritical humans talk about humanity. They divided our country and turned it into a American slave Pakistan. We believe that both Israel and Iran have thousands of years of history; everyone should live together."

“Israel was there during Kargil, against Islamic terrorists, technology, defence, what Iran had done to address our core concern and what you will do apart from instigating Islamic theology, where is Persian culture in Iran itself? I am not justifying what Israel has done," a user questioned Iran’s stance in relation to India’s strategic concerns.
