Sources confirmed that preparations intensified after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a call with Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The conversation focused on regional developments, the ceasefire and diplomatic efforts being pursued by Islamabad in the context of US-Iran engagement.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Dar stressed the need for sustained dialogue and engagement to resolve outstanding issues and restore regional peace and stability. Araghchi, in turn, appreciated Pakistan’s “consistent and constructive facilitation role," with both sides agreeing to remain in close contact.

Separately, top diplomatic sources said Araghchi also held discussions with Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, with both sides reviewing the current regional situation and possible pathways to sustain communication between key stakeholders. Sources added that an advance Iranian team is expected in Pakistan soon to facilitate coordination and movement ahead of the main delegation’s arrival.

However, sources indicated that while an Iranian delegation may arrive, a second formal round of talks between Washington and Tehran may not immediately take place, as senior US leadership is currently not in Islamabad. Speculation within diplomatic circles suggests the visit may initially be limited to consultations with Pakistani interlocutors before broader negotiations begin.

Sources said an American delegation is also expected to arrive tomorrow or by Sunday, raising the possibility that Islamabad could still host the second round of talks in the coming days.

Even so, Pakistan’s preparations suggest it is expecting movement on the diplomatic front within days. Islamabad and Rawalpindi have effectively been locked down for the expected high-profile visit. Security measures have been escalated across the capital, with the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone shut for all traffic. Residents have been advised to use alternate routes.

Major luxury hotels, including the Serena, Marriott and Movenpick, have been asked to vacate guests by evening to accommodate visiting delegations, while Serena Hotel has been fully cleared.

CNN-News18 had earlier reported that a US ASL fleet comprising 12 aircraft is already stationed at Noor Khan airbase in Rawalpindi, which has been designated the primary VIP arrival strip for foreign officials. Law enforcement agencies have deployed rooftop security teams and surveillance units along official convoy routes from Noor Khan airbase to central Islamabad. Residents in sensitive zones have also reportedly been instructed not to record convoy movements.

Top security sources said Field Marshal Asim Munir is also scheduled to chair a high-powered meeting to review security preparedness, diplomatic coordination and logistical arrangements linked to the expected delegations.
