An Iranian court has sentenced Nobel Peace Prize awardee Narges Mohammadi to six-year jail for “gathering and collusion to commit crimes".
AFP quoted lawyer Mostafa Nili saying, “She has been sentenced to six years in prison for gathering and collusion to commit crimes."
Besides, Mohammadi has been banned for two years from leaving the country. The lawyer further stated that she has also been given one-and-a-half-year prison sentence for propaganda activities and will be exiled for two years to Khosf in the eastern province of South Khorasan.
However, jail sentences run concurrently under the Iranian law.

AFP quoted Nili expressing hope that due to Mohammadi’s health issues, she could be temporarily “released on bail to receive treatment".
He added that the verdict issued was not final and could be appealed.
Mohammadi has been imprisoned 13 times and convicted five times.
The Nobel Prize winner has spent several parts of the past decade in jails. In December 2024, she was released for three weeks on medical grounds related to “her physical condition after the removal of a tumour and a bone graft", her lawyer stated.
During imprisonment, Mohammadi had even staged protests and hunger strikes.
She won the peace prize in 2023, especially for her campaigning against the death penalty in Iran. Her children collected the award on her behalf, as she was in prison at the time.
