A woman’s body recovered from a canal in Scottsdale, Arizona, has triggered a police investigation, even as authorities clarified that the discovery is not connected to the widely followed disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.
According to Scottsdale Police, the body was found around 8 am on March 28 after a passerby spotted it in a canal near Indian Bend and Hayden roads. Emergency teams later retrieved the remains, and a death investigation is currently underway.
Officials said the identity of the woman is yet to be ascertained, and the cause of death remains unclear. Due to the condition of the body, investigators have not been able to determine signs the death, with the medical examiner expected to establish further details.
The discovery initially raised speculation about a possible link to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of US television journalist Savannah Guthrie, who went missing from her Tucson home earlier this year.
However, police have ruled out any connection between the two cases. Authorities said there is no evidence to suggest the body found in Scottsdale is related to Guthrie’s disappearance, which continues to be treated as a suspected abduction.
Nancy Guthrie has been missing since February 1, with investigators earlier indicating she may have been taken against her will. The case has drawn national attention in the United States, with ongoing appeals from her family for information.
Police said they will continue the investigation and urged the public to wait for confirmed details as forensic analysis progresses.
