JD Vance met Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Washington on Friday for talks focused on ongoing negotiations with Iran, regional stability and global energy markets.

According to a source familiar with the discussions, the meeting covered broader US-Qatar relations as well as the evolving situation in Iran amid continued diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in the Gulf.

The talks also focused heavily on liquefied natural gas (LNG) markets and regional security concerns, reflecting growing international anxiety over disruptions linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Qatar has emerged as a key diplomatic player during the ongoing crisis and remains one of the world’s largest LNG exporters, making stability in the Gulf critical for global energy supplies.

The meeting comes as Washington continues to pursue negotiations with Tehran through regional intermediaries, with discussions reportedly centred on ceasefire arrangements, maritime access through Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme.

The US and Iran have held multiple rounds of indirect and direct talks in recent months, including negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Oman, though key disagreements remain unresolved.
