White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt faced a question on Wednesday about what President Donald Trump was “trying to communicate to the public” when he shared — and then deleted — a deepfake video pushing the right-wing “MedBeds” conspiracy theory.
Leavitt’s response left many critics baffled.
“I think the president saw the video and posted it and then took it down,” she said during a briefing. Watch here:
Reporter: The president posted an AI deepfake of himself talking about medbeds. What was he trying to communicate?
Leavitt: The president saw the video and posted it and then took it down. He is transparent He likes to share memes and videos. I think it is refreshing to have a… pic.twitter.com/neoTGa13oz
“Trump has the right to do that, it’s his social media,” Leavitt continued. “He is incredibly transparent, as you all know. You hear from him directly on social media. He likes to share memes, he likes to share videos. He likes to repost things that he sees other people post on social media as well.”
Leavitt then claimed “it is refreshing” to have a president “so open and honest,” despite Trump’s penchant for mistruths, and emphasized that Trump is communicating “directly” with Americans through his Truth Social platform.
Critics had... thoughts:
“He has the right to say blippity blippity boo, I’m the Prez, who are you? And honestly, who can argue with that?”
— Courier Fontella Bass (@DonGone5) October 1, 2025What the f*ck kind of non-answer was that? She literally just repeated the question back to the reporter...
— Lib Dunk (@libdunkmedia) October 1, 2025This should be a MUCH bigger story than it is.
His doing this was disturbing.
Of all the words in the Webster dictionary the word refreshing has never come to mind when I'm speaking about Trump 🤣🤣🤬🤬🤬🤬

Today Trump dropped his pants and took a dump on the Whitehouse lawn. Do you have an explanation for that?
Leavitt:
The President very much likes to maintain his lawn, including keeping it well fertilized, which is obviously his right to do, and I find that refreshing.

In other words: "The president saw the video, thought it was real because he's out of touch with reality, and posted it. Then someone told him it was fake, he surprisingly listened and took it down. We have no better explanation than that."
