Lebanese militant group Hezbollah on Sunday vowed to confront aggression by the US and Israel in response to their strikes on the group’s key supporter Iran.

“We will undertake our duty of confronting the aggression," Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem said in a statement. He further said that the movement will not leave “the field of honour and resistance".

According to AFP, Hezbollah will be organising a gathering on Sunday afternoon in its stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburb in a show of support for its ally Iran, amid fears from Lebanese authorities that it might intervene in the conflict.

After an emergency meeting of the country’s Higher Defence Council, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said “the decision of war and peace rests solely with the Lebanese state".

According to AFP, Hezbollah has called on mosques to recite the Koran and organise mourning ceremonies to mark the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, both in the Beirut suburb and other areas of Lebanon where the group wields influence.

US President Donald Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform that Iran’s top leader was killed after intelligence pinpointed his movements. “He was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do," Trump said.

The US and Israeli military strikes across Iran have pushed the Middle East into a new and unpredictable conflict, with Iran launching retaliatory attacks against Israel and nearby Gulf Arab countries.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has initiated a massive diplomatic and logistical effort to ensure the safety of its citizens.

The Indian Embassy has established 24×7 communication channels to monitor the safety, precise locations, and immediate requirements of the Indian community, which includes a significant number of caregivers, IT professionals, and students. A detailed security advisory has been reissued, urging all citizens to exercise “extreme caution", avoid all unnecessary movement, and strictly adhere to the safety protocols mandated by the local Home Front Command. This outreach is being facilitated through a multi-pronged mechanism involving official digital channels, social media, and direct community leader engagement.
