India has begun moving a vessel carrying a large consignment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the Strait of Hormuz, with the ship departing under the guidance of the Indian Navy, top government sources told CNN-News18.
According to sources, the vessel Shivalik has started its journey from the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz with a crew on board and is carrying more than 40,000 metric tonnes of LPG. The shipment is part of a carefully coordinated movement amid the tense security situation in the region.
Government sources said the vessel is being escorted and guided by the Indian Navy to ensure safe passage through the sensitive maritime corridor, which remains one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes.
Officials also indicated that another vessel carrying LPG is expected to depart within the next six hours, suggesting that India has begun a staggered movement of energy shipments from the region.
CNN-News18 had earlier reported that the movement of Indian-linked vessels from the Strait of Hormuz would begin soon after negotiations aimed at ensuring safe transit were completed.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key global chokepoint through which 20 per cent of the world’s oil and gas shipments pass, making security arrangements in the area crucial for energy supplies.
