Federal officers have fatally shot another person in Minneapolis as part of the ongoing immigration enforcement operation led by the US Department of Homeland Security, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said Saturday.
In a social media post, Walz said he had spoken with the White House about the incident and urged Donald Trump to end the federal immigration crackdown in the state. He described the latest shooting by federal agents as “horrific," though authorities have not released full details about what led to the use of force.
The shooting comes amid daily protests in Minneapolis and the surrounding Twin Cities region, where demonstrators have called for federal law enforcement to leave the area. Thousands took to the streets on Friday in freezing temperatures to protest the enforcement operation, which critics say has created heightened tensions with local communities.
Since January 7, residents have been regularly gathering after 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown an incident that sparked national outcry and intensified protests in and beyond Minnesota.
Federal law enforcement officers have increasingly encountered confrontations with activists and community members who track their movements, leading to repeated clashes on city streets.
