First Lady of the United States Melania Trump has issued a bold legal challenge to Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, demanding he retract defamatory comments linking her to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. Through her attorneys, Melania has put Hunter on notice, threatening him with a $1 billion defamation lawsuit if he fails to publicly apologise and retract the statements within a set timeframe.

The controversy erupted when Hunter was questioned about the infamous Epstein case, which has long cast a shadow over many high-profile figures. In his comments, he allegedly connected Melania to Epstein’s network, sparking widespread media attention. Trump’s legal team quickly moved to counter these claims, branding them as entirely false and harmful to Melania’s reputation.

In a letter sent by her lawyers, they demanded that Hunter retract his statements, adding: “Your recent comments, suggesting a connection between Mrs. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, are categorically false, defamatory, and designed to cause irreparable harm to her reputation."

The letter goes on to say: “By making these false and unfounded statements, you have not only caused harm to Mrs. Trump’s personal and professional reputation but have also attempted to exploit the highly charged public interest surrounding the Epstein case for personal gain."

The letter outlined that failure to comply would lead to a lawsuit seeking significant financial damages, up to $1 billion. “Failure to retract the defamatory statements and offer a public apology will leave Mrs. Trump no choice but to pursue all available legal remedies, including a defamation lawsuit that will seek compensation for the harm caused."

Trump’s team has consistently maintained that the allegations are part of a broader smear campaign against Melania, fuelled by her association with high-profile figures like her husband. The letter further stated: “Mrs. Trump has been an object of public scrutiny for years. However, the continued propagation of falsehoods and defamatory remarks goes beyond criticism—it seeks to maliciously damage her character, and we will not stand for it."

The legal dispute is the latest in a series of public feuds involving the Biden and Trump families. The Trump-Biden rivalry has been amplified by the constant media scrutiny of both political dynasties, particularly surrounding Hunter Biden’s business dealings and Melania Trump’s role during her husband’s presidency.

Trump’s team has emphasised that the allegations are without merit and part of a broader attempt to tarnish her character. The First Lady herself has not yet spoken publicly on the matter, but her legal team insists the claims are part of a malicious effort to create false narratives about her associations.

Hunter Biden has yet to issue a retraction or public apology, and his legal representatives have not provided any formal response to the notice so far.
