The war involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has entered its seventh day, with the conflict rapidly expanding across the Middle East and drawing in multiple countries.

The hostilities began on February 28 after coordinated US-Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure, triggering widespread retaliation from Tehran and its allies.

Below are the top developments from the conflict.

US STRIKES INTENSIFY EVEN AS IRANIAN ATTACKS DROP

The United States has escalated its military campaign against Iran even as Iranian missile and drone attacks have significantly declined.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, said Iranian ballistic missile attacks have dropped by around 90 per cent, while drone attacks have decreased by 83 per cent since the war began.

At the same time, US forces have stepped up their operations against Iran’s naval and missile infrastructure.

According to Cooper, US forces have sunk more than 30 Iranian ships, including a large drone carrier vessel that is currently burning after being struck.

The US military has also used heavy bomber aircraft, including B-2 bombers, to strike deeply buried missile launch facilities and weapons sites across Iran.

Officials said dozens of 2,000-pound bunker-penetrating bombs have been dropped on Iranian missile launchers and military infrastructure over the past few days.

PENTAGON WARNS CONFLICT COULD ESCALATE FURTHER

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the war could intensify further in the coming days.

“If you think you’ve seen something, just wait," Hegseth said, suggesting that the campaign may soon enter a more aggressive phase.

Hegseth also insisted that the United States has the capacity to sustain the war for as long as necessary.

“Iran is hoping that we cannot sustain this, which is a really bad miscalculation," he said, adding that US weapon stockpiles and military capabilities remain strong.

US officials say the campaign, known as Operation Epic Fury, is focused on destroying Iran’s missile production facilities, naval capabilities, and military infrastructure.

IRAN CONTINUES MISSILE AND DRONE ATTACKS

Despite the decline in overall strike numbers, Iran has continued launching missile and drone attacks against regional targets.

Iran said it carried out a hybrid missile and drone attack on Israel, with footage showing explosions in the skies over Tel Aviv as Israeli defences intercepted incoming projectiles.

Iran has also launched attacks targeting several Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.

Saudi Arabia said it intercepted three ballistic missiles aimed at Prince Sultan Air Base, preventing damage to the facility.

Meanwhile, authorities in Bahrain reported a refinery fire following a missile strike.

CONFLICT SPREADS ACROSS THE MIDDLE EAST

The war is increasingly spreading beyond Iran and Israel.

Azerbaijan accused Iran of launching drones into its territory and temporarily shut down its southern airspace after an alleged strike near an airport.

Iran denied the accusation.

Elsewhere, Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group in Lebanon, launched attacks on Israel following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei earlier in the war.

In response, Israel has expanded its military campaign to Lebanon.

Israeli forces have conducted multiple airstrikes in Dahieh, a southern suburb of Beirut considered a Hezbollah stronghold.

Lebanese authorities say the strikes have killed more than 120 people and displaced tens of thousands since the fighting began.

STRIKES HIT IRANIAN CAPITAL AS CIVILIANS FLEE

Airstrikes have continued across Iran, including in the capital Tehran.

Israeli forces warned residents in several areas of eastern Tehran to evacuate before planned strikes on government and military targets.

Iranian media reported explosions across parts of the city, while residents described chaotic conditions as bombardments continued.

Iranian officials say the war has already killed over 1,200 people in the country, although the figure could not be independently verified.

TRUMP SIGNALS ROLE IN IRAN’S POLITICAL FUTURE

US President Donald Trump has indicated that Washington wants a role in shaping Iran’s political future following the war.

In an interview with Reuters, Trump said the United States wants to be involved in choosing Iran’s next leader after the death of Khamenei.

“We want to be involved in the process of choosing the person who is going to lead Iran into the future," Trump said.

He also dismissed the possibility of Mojtaba Khamenei, the late leader’s son, succeeding his father.

GLOBAL IMPACT AND ECONOMIC SHOCKWAVES

The conflict is also triggering significant global economic concerns.

Disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies, have threatened around 20 per cent of the world’s oil trade, causing energy prices to surge.

Financial markets have reacted nervously, with rising oil prices and supply disruptions affecting global trade and transport networks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that while Israel has achieved significant military gains, the campaign is far from over.

“Our achievements so far have been great," Netanyahu said, but warned that “much work still lies ahead."
