As the Iran war continues to escalate, Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Monday appealed to US President Donald Trump to help end the conflict, adding that that only he can “stop the war".

“I say to President Trump: no one will be able to stop the war in our region, in the Gulf but you… Please, Mr. President, please. Please help us stop the war. You are capable of doing so," said Sisi at the Egypt Energy Show 2026 conference in Cairo.

“I speak to you in the name of humanity and in the name of everyone who loves peace — and you, Mr President, are among those who love peace," he said.

Egypt, Pakistan and Turkiye are helping to negotiate between Washington and Tehran.

Reuter quoted the Egyptian President saying that the war will trigger twin shocks of supply shortages and price rises, the full extent of which have yet to be felt.

“I fear that targeting energy facilities, whether production or refineries, will have very serious repercussions for the global economy and fuel prices," he said. Market watchers had warned “the price of a barrel of oil could reach more than $200, and this is not an exaggeration," he added.

Sisi also warned that the “wealthy countries might be able to absorb this, but for middle-income and fragile economies, it could have a very, very severe impact on their stability".

During the press conference, Sisi credited Trump with ending the war in Gaza.

“The consequences of wars have always been loss, destruction and damage. No one gets out happy or a winner. I hope that we all work as much as we can to stop these crises," he said.

The remarks came after Trump warned Iran of a fresh attack on Kharg Island if a deal was not reached “shortly".

“Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately “Open for Business," we will conclude our lovely “stay" in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet “touched.", said Trump on Truth Social.

“This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year ‘Reign of Terror’," he added.
