Rep. Dave Taylor (R-Ohio) said Wednesday he’s working with Capitol Police to investigate a swastika image found on display in his Washington, D.C., office.

The image, seen on a virtual work call behind the desk of his staffers, was obtained and confirmed by Politico earlier Wednesday after The Rooster, an Ohio politics newsletter, first shared it on social media.

“I am aware of an image that appears to depict a vile and deeply inappropriate symbol near an employee in my office,” Taylor said in a statement. “The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms.”

Taylor added that he “immediately directed a thorough investigation alongside Capitol Police, which remains ongoing,” declining further comment until the probe is complete. Capitol Police did not return requests for comment.

The image, captured during a virtual meeting with Taylor staffer Angelo Elia, depicts an American flag with some of its stripes altered to form a swastika. It was pinned on a cubicle wall behind Elia, alongside a pocket Constitution, a congressional calendar and a few other papers.

A spokesperson for Taylor confirmed to Politico that the swastika was found in the congressman’s office and that Taylor believes it is the result of “foul play or vandalism.”

A LinkedIn profile that appears to belong to Elia shows he’s worked for Taylor since he assumed office in January.

Taylor is a first-term congressman representing Ohio’s 2nd district just east of Cincinnati. President Donald Trump enthusiastically endorsed him in a TruthSocial post during last year’s election.

The flag’s reveal comes a day after Politico exposed that multiple leaders of Young Republicans chapters sent deeply racist messages in a group chat, including repeated slurs for Black and LGBTQ+ people, and casual praise of Adolf Hitler, who made the ancient swastika symbol the centerpiece of the Nazi flag.
